Washington: Tesla chief Elon Musk and millionaire entrepreneur-turned-politician Vivek Ramaswamy have been given a big responsibility by Donald Trump, who won a landslide victory in the US presidential election. Donald Trump has announced that Musk and Ramaswamy will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
What did Trump say?
Donald Trump said in a statement that Elon Musk and Ramaswamy will pave the way for my administration to eliminate government bureaucracy, reduce excess regulations, cut wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies.
Let us tell you that Musk had insisted on a government efficiency department and since then it has been continuously promoted. Trump said the agency would “conduct a thorough financial and performance audit of the entire federal government, and make recommendations for drastic reforms.”
Musk had recently said this
While talking to journalists last month, Musk had stated the target of reducing government expenditure by $2 trillion. Practically, experts say cost-cutting could result in regulation and policy changes that would directly impact Musk's companies, particularly Tesla, SpaceX, X and Neuralink.
Who is Ramaswami?
Ramaswamy is a wealthy biotech entrepreneur. He was contesting for the Republican Party nomination for the first time last year. He told ABC earlier this week that he was discussing possible roles in Trump's Cabinet.
Although Ramaswami has no government experience, he has emphasized cost-cutting in the corporate sector.
It is noteworthy that Donald Trump won the presidential election last week, defeating Democratic rival Kamala Harris by 69 electoral votes. During his victory speech, Trump had praised Musk and described him as an amazing and super talented person. She also mentioned that the billionaire spent two weeks campaigning with her in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.
