PM Narendra Modi reached Nigeria on Sunday during his three-nation visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the West African nation in 17 years. PM Modi, invited by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was given a warm welcome at the Abuja Airport. The visit symbolizes the growing ties between India and Nigeria, Africa's most populous country. On reaching Abuja airport, PM Modi was welcomed by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, presented the symbolic “Key to the City” of Abuja to the Indian Prime Minister as a gesture of trust and goodwill.

Meanwhile, members of the Indian community in Nigeria also reached the airport to give PM Modi a warm welcome. They waved Indian flags and cheered as soon as PM Modi arrived. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of the reception, saying it “reflects the confidence and respect given to the Prime Minister by the people of Nigeria.” The Ministry of External Affairs also shared visuals of the event, emphasizing the importance of PM Modi's historic visit to the West African region.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi shared pictures of his welcome by the Indian diaspora in Nigeria. PM Modi said it was “heart-touching”. PM Modi said “It is heartening to see the Indian community in Nigeria receiving such a warm and vibrant welcome!”
