Beijing: China on Monday said it is ready to implement the consensus reached on key issues between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia. Asked about the possibility of a meeting between Modi and Xi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, “President Xi Jinping met Prime Minister Modi on the sidelines of the recently held BRICS summit in Kazan. Had met.” “China is willing to work together with India to implement the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries on key issues, enhance dialogue and cooperation, and promote strategic mutual trust,” he said. Jian said he had no information about the schedule of the meeting between leaders and officials.

What did PM Modi and Jinping say?

In a nearly 50-minute meeting held on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia's Kazan city last month, Modi and Xi discussed the withdrawal of troops from the remaining standoff points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh and the resumption of patrolling there. Had supported the agreement between China. The two leaders had also issued instructions to restore various bilateral dialogue mechanisms. In the meeting, Modi had underlined the importance of properly handling differences and disputes and not allowing peace and stability in the border areas to be disturbed. He had said that mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity should remain the basis of relations. At the same time, Xi had said that China-India relations basically depend on how the two major developing countries, each with a population of about 1.4 billion, behave with each other. He had said that China and India should maintain a good strategic perception of each other and work together to find the “right and bright path” for both countries to live in harmony and develop together.

Relations between India and China had reached a low level

Relations between India and China had reached a low point after the military clash in Galwan Valley in June 2020. This clash was the deadliest military clash between the two sides in the last few decades. India and China had agreed to an agreement on October 21 to withdraw troops from the remaining conflict areas in eastern Ladakh and begin patrolling. The agreement was seen as a major breakthrough towards resolving the nearly four-year-long military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Modi and Xi had also directed the Special Representatives to meet soon for talks on the India-China border issue and continue their efforts to resolve LAC-related issues. India's special representative for the talks is National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, while the Chinese side is led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Special Representative Mechanism was established in 2003. Since then 20 rounds of talks have taken place between the two sides. The last talks were held in 2019. (Language)
