Bhopal: In the process of changing the names of cities, streets, intersections and buildings, in the year 2017, the BJP government had changed the symbol (Mono) of Bhopal Municipal Corporation given by the Nizam of Hyderabad to a new symbol. Now this mark has become the center of controversy. BJP councilors along with Hindu organizations have raised objection over Nawab symbols being seen on many new and old hoardings of the Municipal Corporation across the city.
These hoardings of Bhopal Municipal Corporation giving information about the routes of various areas of the capital Bhopal are in controversy these days. The reason is the symbol of Bhopal Municipal Corporation with two fishes visible in the pictures. In 2017, Bhopal Municipal Corporation had changed it to the name of Raja Bhoj, calling it a symbol of slavery. The old symbol of two fish is visible in the hoarding of the Municipal Corporation showing the way, installed 100 meters away from the Chief Minister's residence. Controversy arose when the emblem given by the Hyderabad Nizam once again appeared on hoardings.
Nizam of Hyderabad gave the emblem of two fishes
Bhopal is considered the city of Nawabs. It is said that the Nawab of Bhopal along with the Nawab of Hyderabad and Junagadh had refused to merge with India. During this time, the Nizam of Hyderabad had given the emblem of two fishes to the Nawab of Bhopal. From joining India till the formation of Madhya Pradesh and after Bhopal became the capital, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation continued to use this symbol of two fishes and Ashoka symbol as its symbol for a long time. But in 2017, the Mayor's Council changed this symbol to a symbol with the picture of Raja Bhoj. In such a situation, when the old logo once again appeared everywhere, controversy arose. The Hindu organization termed it a symbol of slavery and the Mughal era mentality of the officers and demanded imposition of NSA against the officers.
Symbols being removed from municipal hoardings
After the controversy surfaced and the objection of Hindu organization, now the symbols are being removed from the hoardings of the Municipal Corporation all over Bhopal. Mayor-in-Council's Jagdish Yadav says that the license of the agency which has installed these hoardings will be canceled and action will be taken against the officials.
