The Manipur government on Tuesday announced indefinite extension of the closure of all schools and colleges in the districts where curfew is in place from November 27. After this order, now educational institutions in Imphal East and West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Jiribam will remain closed from Wednesday till further orders. Let us inform that after the Civil Society Organization Coordination Committee Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) of Imphal Valley took the decision to keep the state and central government offices closed for 2 days from Wednesday, it was announced to keep all the educational institutions closed.

Education Directorate issued order

In its order issued by the Directorate of Education, it has said, “All state government schools and government-aided, private and central schools located in the valley districts will remain closed from November 27, 2024, till further orders.” At the same time, another order said that “Government educational institutions, government-aided colleges under the Higher and Technical Education Department, including state universities located in the districts where curfew has been imposed, will remain closed till further orders.”

Relaxation has been given

It is noteworthy that earlier, as per the orders issued by the District Magistrates, curfew has been relaxed from 5 am to 12 noon in all 5 valley districts and Jiribam to enable people to purchase essential commodities and medicines. However, the orders said that during the relaxation period, protests, rallies and meetings will not be allowed without obtaining prior approval from the competent authority.

Let us inform that schools and colleges are closed in these districts since November 16 after the bodies of three women and three children were found in Jiribam from Jiri and Barak rivers in Manipur and Assam.
