Bengaluru: A case has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya and editors of some Kannada news portals for spreading fake news. Giving information about this on Friday, the police said that there is an allegation against Surya and others of spreading fake news by linking the case of suicide of a farmer with the land dispute with the Waqf Board. Sharing these news portal's news on 'X', Surya had on November 7 alleged that a farmer in Haveri district allegedly committed suicide after learning about his land being acquired by the Waqf Board.

Surya later removed the post

Tejasvi Surya had accused the Karnataka government in his post and said, 'In a hurry to please the minorities, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Housing, Waqf and Minority Development Minister in Karnataka Government B. Jade. Zameer Ahmed Khan has created a disastrous situation in the state, which is becoming impossible to stop with each passing day. The MP later removed the post after the Superintendent of Police of Haveri district termed the news report as fake.

'No such incident came to light'

The Superintendent of Police had said, 'The news shared is fake. No such incident came to light. The farmer Rudrappa Channappa Balikai mentioned here was reported to have committed suicide on January 6, 2022. It is said that he committed suicide due to debt and crop loss. He said that a case was registered under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) at Aadar police station and the final report has already been submitted.

'FIR registered in CEN police station of Haveri district'

A senior police officer said, 'Based on the complaint by a police officer posted in the social media monitoring cell of Haveri district police, a case was registered under section 353 (2) of the BNS (promoting or promoting feelings of hatred, ill-will or enmity between different groups). A case has been registered against the editors of 'Kannada Duniya e-Paper' and 'Kannada News e-Paper' and Tejasvi Surya under IPC (Making, publishing or circulating any statement with intent to make or disseminate) Is.' He said that an FIR has been registered at CEN (Cyber ​​Crime, Economic Offence, Narcotics Control) police station in Haveri district.
