Modi government has decided to include elders and senior citizens aged 70 years and above in Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). There will be no income limit in this now. This means that elders from any economic group can avail the benefits of this scheme. Let us tell you that through Ayushman Card, cashless treatment facility is available in more than 30,000 hospitals across the country. In such a situation, if you have parents and their age is 70 years, then you can get the benefit of free treatment by registering them in this scheme. Let us know how to enroll your parents in this scheme. And answers to all the questions you want to know.

Q. After the government's announcement, how can senior citizens aged 70 years and above join this scheme?

Any elderly person aged 70 years or above can apply for Ayushman Bharat Senior Citizens Scheme on the website www.beneficiary.nha.gov.in or by using the Ayushman app (available for Android on Google Play Store). Beneficiaries need to verify their identity and eligibility through Aadhaar e-KYC only. Aadhaar serves as the primary document to confirm both the age and residence state of the beneficiary and is the only document required to complete the registration process.

Q. How can family members register their parents or any other elder in this scheme?

Family members can register the eligible beneficiary through the beneficiary login option on the mobile app and Website. They just need to enter their mobile number and enter the OTP to start the enrollment process. Any person can enroll himself by visiting his nearest empaneled hospital. AB PM-JAY is a completely cashless scheme. It is mandatory for the empaneled hospitals to provide cashless treatment to the beneficiaries.

Q. If a person is undergoing treatment under PM-JAY and faces problems in the hospital, then where can he lodge a complaint?

Any person can lodge a complaint on AB PM-JAY website or through national call center '14555', mail, letter, fax etc. Any complaint regarding denial of treatment by the empaneled hospital will be treated as SOS complaint and a 'turn around time' of 6 hours has been prescribed to resolve the same. Such beneficiaries will have to restart their Aadhaar based e-KYC through the website or mobile app to get registered as beneficiaries under the Senior Citizens Scheme.

Q. Where can I see the list of hospitals listed under PM-JAY? Are big private hospitals of the country also included under this?

Q. How will the treatment be done under PMJAY? What if the treatment cost exceeds Rs 5 lakh?

As public health and hospitals are a state subject under the Indian Constitution, State Health Agencies (SHAs) are mandated to empanel hospitals under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. Beneficiaries can go to any of the listed hospitals, show their Ayushman card or their PMJAY ID to get treatment. Before visiting, the beneficiary should confirm that the hospital is listed to treat the specific condition they require assistance with. The cost of all treatment under this scheme is around Rs 2 lakh. In such a situation, Rs 5 lakh is enough. Under the umbrella scheme of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN), financial assistance of up to Rs 15 lakh is provided to patients from poor families – who are eligible for PM-JAY – to avail the treatment if the cost exceeds this amount. For lifting which are not covered under PM-JAY. Therefore, AB PM-JAY along with other central government schemes can take care of the hospitalization needs of eligible beneficiaries.
