Hyderabad: Former BRS MLA has suffered a major setback in the German citizenship case. Telangana High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on the former MLA in this case. Actually, Telangana High Court has imposed this fine on former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh on Monday. Chennamaneni Ramesh has been fined Rs 30 lakh for concealing and misrepresenting facts related to his German citizenship.
Court upheld the 2019 decision
The High Court rejected the petition of former MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh. Apart from this, the High Court upheld the 2019 order of the Union Home Ministry to cancel his Indian citizenship. Regarding this matter, Telangana High Court said that former MLA from Vemulawada seat Chennamaneni Ramesh is not 'citizenless' as he holds a German passport. The High Court found that despite its directions, former MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh had failed to produce documents proving that he had renounced his German citizenship. Along with this, Telangana High Court imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on former BRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh.
Congress MLA will have to pay Rs 25 lakh
Telangana High Court has directed to pay Rs 25 lakh of the fine of Rs 30 lakh to Congress MLA from Vemulawada Adi Srinivas in a month. In fact, Congress MLA Adi Srinivas had earlier challenged the Indian citizenship of former MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh. During this time he had to spend on the case. Apart from this, the High Court has asked to deposit the remaining amount of Rs 5 lakh in the Legal Services Authority. Let us tell you that there is no provision for dual citizenship in India. According to the Representation of the People Act, any person who is not an Indian citizen is not entitled to be a candidate or vote in any election. (input- agency)
