Instagram Two new features have been added for millions of users. Users were demanding these features for a long time. Instagram users will also now be able to share long short videos like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. The company has now doubled the duration for creators to post reels. Creators will now be able to post reels of double the duration on Instagram than before. These longer reels will especially benefit creators who create informative content for their users.
Apart from this, vertical grid feature has been rolled out in Instagram. Meta started testing this feature in August last year. Instagram head Adam Mousri has shared information about these two features through a post. Apart from this, now users will be able to customize the thumbnail of the video uploaded on Instagram.
3 minute reels
Instagram creators will now be able to post reels of 180 seconds i.e. three minutes instead of 90 seconds. In his post, Adam Moussari said that the vertical grid feature for profiles is being rolled out to all users this week. Earlier users could post vertical grid in 1:1 ratio, which has now been upgraded to 4:3. Both positive and negative feedback are being received from users regarding this.
Mousri said in his post that users mostly post vertical photos and videos on Instagram. This new feature will help in keeping the layout of the profile simple and neat. However, Mousri also said that to improve the thumbnail, the feature of customizing it is also being added, so that users can use creative thumbnail as per their own.
Apart from this, a dedicated tab for Instagram Story Highlights will be added soon. This feature is currently being tested. Increasing the length of Instagram reels from 90 seconds to 180 seconds is a strategy of the company. This feature can challenge platforms like Tik-Tok, YouTube Shorts. The feature to upload 3-minute long videos to TikTok was added in July 2021. Whereas for YouTube Shorts, it was rolled out in October 2024. This feature is available for both Android and iOS platforms.
