TRAI has made preparations to completely curb unwanted marketing calls. The telecom regulator is coming up with a new pilot project this month, in which no single marketing calls and messages will be received on the user's number without their permission. For this, the regulator is going to upgrade the Digital Distributor Ledger Technology (DLT) system. TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said that the regulator is making the regulation more stringent to stop fake spam calls.

Marketing calls stopped completely

TRAI is going to bring authorization framework this month to stop spam calls. It will be implemented in the coming few weeks. After this, calls will be received on the user's number only from those telemarketers to whom he has given permission. In August last year, the telecom regulator had announced several new rules to curb spam calls and messages. Of these, a new rule regarding fake calls and messages was implemented in October. With the introduction of this rule, messages with URLs from telemarketers which have not been whitelisted will not be received on the user's phone.

Besides, a rule to block fake telemarketing calls at the network level has also been implemented. Message traceability rule has been implemented from December 11 last month, in which fake messages coming on users' phones can be easily tracked. 120 crore mobile users of the country are going to benefit from message traceability.

In the message traceability rule, it will be easy to trace the sender of the message coming on the user's mobile. Fake commercial messages sent by hackers will not reach the users and will be blocked at the network level. In this way the risk of fraud among the users will be less. Also, the sender of the message can be traced. According to the new mandate of the telecom regulator, telecom companies should know about the complete chain of any message coming to the user's number.

Information – TRAI bluntly tells Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vi to prepare to bring cheap plans, crores of users will benefit.
