The number of Jio's 5G users is continuously doubling day and quadrupling at night. The country's largest telecom operators have left the world's biggest telecom companies behind in terms of adding 5G users. In just two years of launching 5G service in October 2022, Jio has become the world's second largest 5G operator. At the same time, Airtel, the company which launched 5G with Jio, is still far behind in this matter.

World's second largest 5G operator

According to the report for the third quarter of the financial year 2024-25 shared by the company, Jio's 5G userbase has crossed 170 million i.e. 17 crores. The company has claimed that this quarter the company has added 40 million i.e. around 4 crore 5G users. In the last quarter, Jio's 5G userbase was 130 million i.e. 13 crores. At the same time, Airtel's 5G userbase was around 90 million i.e. 9 crores in the quarter ending June 2024.

Jio has said in its financial report that the wireless data traffic on the company's 5G network has increased by 40 percent. The company offers unlimited free 5G data with its 2GB daily data or above plans. Bharti Airtel also offers unlimited 5G data to its users with expensive prepaid recharge plans. Jio is now behind only China Telecom in terms of 5G users.

Increasing demand for 5G smartphones

The way the demand for 5G smartphones has increased in India. In such a situation, India's 5G userbase is likely to be the highest in the world in the coming time. At the same time, if industry reports are to be believed, the 5G smartphone market in India may cross $50 billion by the end of 2025. Telecom operators are going to benefit from this. At present, Airtel and Jio are providing 5G service in all the telecom circles of the country. At the same time, 5G service of Vodafone Idea and BSNL can also be started on a large scale this year.

The increase in mobile tariffs by private telecom companies in July last year has benefited their Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). However, the users of telecom companies are continuously decreasing. According to the recent TRAI report, except Airtel, users of any private telecom operators have not increased in the month of October.
