According to Gravy Analytics, hackers have collected and leaked the exact location details of the devices of millions of Android and iOS users. Most of these were iPhone users, who were using iOS 14.5 or below. According to the recently released report of 404 Media, the hacker has claimed that through these apps, he has obtained the location information of the users and monetized it by using it for advertisement.
The hacker has used cloud based storage data for this. This information came to light in the data breach that occurred on January 4. Hackers have tracked the location of many popular apps present in smartphones. Most of these apps have downloads in millions. According to the CEO of Predicta Lab, hackers had 1.4GB of data related to the location of users' devices, which has been leaked. This data also includes information about many such locations, which have been found near the American military base and the White House.
These apps were affected
The data breach contains data of 3,455 Android users. The apps through which data has been leaked include the popular dating app Tinder. Apart from this, popular apps like Grindr, Candy Crush, MyFitnessPal, Subway Surfers, Tumblr and Microsoft 365 are also included. The leaked data also includes the device's location as well as its advertising ID.
Users should do this immediately
Users using iOS 14.5 and older Android operating systems should uninstall these apps immediately. Also, users will have to update their phones with the latest operating system. By doing this, the security of your smartphone will improve and there will be no risk of being hacked.
