US Treasury breach: Chinese hackers have broken into the computer of American Finance Minister Janet Yellen. According to the report, Chinese hackers have stolen at least 50 files from the computer of US Senate member and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. According to a Bloomberg report, Chinese hackers also affected the computers of Treasury Department Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo and Acting Under Secretary Brad Smith in December.
The report claims that Chinese hackers have accessed about 50 files from the computer of Finance Minister and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and stolen information related to the work of the Treasury Department, Intelligence and International Affairs.
More than 3000 files breached
According to the report, hackers had accessed more than 3,000 files located on more than 400 personal computers and personal devices of the Treasury Department. Apart from this, hackers have also obtained information related to the Foreign Investment Committee in America. This committee reviews the security implications of foreign investment.
According to a Bloomberg report, hackers have taken advantage of a flaw in the software of BeyondTrust Corporation, a third-party cybersecurity service provider. The cyber security service provider had given this information on December 8 last month. The Treasury Department gave this information to the Cyber Security Agency, FBI and other intelligence agencies. Treasury staff briefed congressional aides and lawmakers about the incident this week.
Investigation by agencies has revealed that the hackers are related to the Chinese government. They gave priority to data collection and carried out it after business hours i.e. office timings to avoid identification. At the same time, the US Treasury Department has described it as a serious incident and said that Chinese hackers have damaged the computer security of the department in December. At the same time, Chinese Finance Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has said that China has always condemned any kind of cyber attacks.
