Former spin bowler of the Indian team Ravichandran Ashwin has been included in the selected names for the Padma Shri honor given by the Government of India this year. Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the Brisbane Test against Australia in 2024. Ravichandran Ashwin is counted among the best spin bowlers of world cricket, in which his record is also seen to be very good in his home as well as abroad.
Ministry of Home Affairs announced selected names
On the eve of Republic Day, the names selected for the Padma Shri honor given by the Ministry of Home Affairs this year were announced, including the name of Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin may have announced his retirement from international cricket but will continue to play in the IPL, in which he will contest the Chennai Super Kings team in IPL 2025. While Ashwin took 537 wickets with 106 matches in Test cricket, he has 156 wickets in 116 ODIs, besides he managed to take 72 wickets in 65 T20 international matches. Ashwin has also been a part of the ODI World Cup winning Indian team in 2011, besides when Team India won the Champions Trophy in 2013, Ashwin also played a very important role in that.
PR Sreejesh will get Padma Bhushan honor
Apart from Ravichandran Ashwin, the name of former goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team PR Sreejesh is also included in the list by the Ministry of Home Affairs, who will be given the Padma Bhushan Samman. Apart from this, Harvinder Singh, who won the gold medal in the Paralympics, will be awarded the Padma Shri, while former football player IM Vijayan will get Padma Shri and Athletic Coach Satyapal Singh will get the Padma Shri.
