Last year, he performed brilliantly with ball and bat in both ODI and T20I formats. In the year 2024, he scored 364 runs in 12 ODI matches at an average of 33.09 while taking 18 wickets at an average of 22.38. At the same time, apart from scoring 363 runs in 13 T20I matches at an average of 33.00, he also took 18 wickets. This is the reason why he has been honored with this special award for the second consecutive time.

Gerhard Erasmus is only the second player in the world to win the ICC Men's Associate Player of the Year more than once. Before this, only Ryan ten Deschate of Netherlands had won the award more than once. Ryan ten Deschate had won this big ICC award three times.
