IND vs ENG: The T20I series against England started on 22 January in Kolkata. Through this match, it was expected that India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami would return after 14 months, but the fans got a big shock when the name of the fast bowler was seen missing from India's playing eleven. In such a situation, questions have once again been raised on Shami's fitness.
Veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami sweated profusely for almost an hour during the Indian team's net session in Chennai on January 24 but the situation remained unclear regarding his much-awaited return to top-level cricket. Shami was expected to play in India's first T20I against England in Kolkata but the team management decided to postpone his return. Like at Eden Gardens, Shami was also actively present during the net sessions in Chennai. He started with a light jogging session with assistant coach Abhishek Nair.
There is a delay in Shami's return
The 34-year-old fast bowler took part in throwing drills for a few minutes with fielding coach T Dilip before heading to the nets. Shami had a heavy bandage tied on both his legs. He started with a short run-up and then bowled at a decent pace. After bowling a few balls with short run-up, Shami started bowling with full run-up but did not look completely in rhythm. His ball hit the lower part of the stump on a few occasions while bowling coach Morne Morkel was watching him closely while playing the role of wicketkeeper.
fans are waiting
Bengal fast bowler Shami then took a break for a few minutes to talk to Morkel and the head coach. After this Shami returned to the nets to start bowling. Gradually his rhythm improved but he did not look his old self. This is quite surprising because Shami was selected in the Indian team for the series against England and the Champions Trophy after playing in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. But here he did not look in his best form and in the beginning he did not bowl to any of his fellow batsmen. Now it remains to be seen whether Shami is able to play in the second match or not.
