For your information, let us tell you that sago is not made from any grain. The sago eaten during fasting is made from the pulp of the stem of a tree called sago palm. The trunk of this tree of East Africa becomes thick. The middle part of this stem is ground and made into powder. When this powder is filtered and heated well, only then sago grains are made from it. Let us tell you that the Sago palm tree is like a palm tree.

How is sago made?

Are you still unaware of how sago is made in India? Sago is made from tapioca starch and a tuber called cassava is used to make this starch. Cassava is a lot like sweet potatoes. This pulp is taken out and kept in big vessels for 8 to 10 days and then water is added every day. This process is repeated for 4 to 6 months.

How is the final product made?

When this pulp is taken out from the utensils and put into the machine, then sago is formed. After drying the sago coming out of the machine, the glucose and starch powder is polished. The sago available in the market is prepared by following this process. A good amount of nutritious elements like carbohydrates, calcium, vitamin C are found in sago.
