There was a time when Bal Thackeray used to dominate the politics of Maharashtra. No matter who was sitting on the post of CM, Bal Thackeray always maintained his supremacy. On the occasion of his death anniversary, we are telling an interesting story related to him.
When Bal Thackeray asked for champagne
Sujata Anandan has written a biography of Bal Thackeray, titled 'Hindu Hriday Samrat – How the Shiv Sena Changed Mumbai Forever'. This book contains many interesting stories related to Bal Thackeray. Regarding an incident, Sujata tells that there was no harm in openly telling Bal Thackeray that he was fond of drinking beer and smoking cigars. He used to drink alcohol in public.
That was the era of 1995, when his party had won and in this regard, Dr. L.H. Hiranandani, father of Mumbai's biggest builder Niranjan Hiranandani, had organized a party. In this party, Bal Thackeray said that some arrangements should be made to soothe the throat.
On this, Dr. Hiranandani said that the CM is present here. How can one serve liquor in their presence? On this, Bal Thackeray directly asked CM Manohar Joshi, “Why do you agree?” Don't you regret it? Actually, Bal Thackeray was asking the CM, what is this Manohar? Don't you drink?
The CM was left speechless after seeing this bluntness of Bal Thackeray. After this, Bal Thackeray told Dr. Hiranandani that we have just formed the government. At least there should be arrangements for 'champagne'. After this the fruit juice party turned into a liquor party.
