New Delhi: India has expressed strong protest to the Canadian government on the allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. India has expressed this protest by summoning the High Commissioner of Canada. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has confirmed this.

Randhir Jaiswal said, “We summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission yesterday, a diplomatic note was handed over in the context of the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29, 2024.” Canada had alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behind the conspiracy to target Sikh separatists in Canada.

Bilateral relations will be seriously affected

Jaiswal said, “The note stated that the Government of India strongly opposes the absurd and baseless references made by Deputy Minister David Morrison before the Committee to the Union Home Minister of India.” “Such irresponsible actions will have a serious impact on bilateral relations,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said. According to a Reuters report, Canada had alleged that the Union Home Minister was behind a plot to target Sikh separatists on Amit Shah's soil.

Canada informed America

Canada's Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison told a parliamentary panel that he told the Washington Post that Amit Shah was behind these conspiracies. On Wednesday, the US reacted to Canada's allegations against Amit Shah, calling it “concerning”. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “The allegations made by the Government of Canada are concerning and we will continue to follow up with the Government of Canada regarding those allegations.”

Conspiracy to defame India

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs in the capital Delhi, said that the revelation that top officials of the Canadian government deliberately leaked baseless allegations to the international media as part of a deliberate strategy to defame India and influence other countries and this is only Confirms the view that the Government of India has long held regarding the political agenda and behavioral patterns of the current Canadian Government.

Jaiswal said India on Friday summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission and lodged a strong protest over the Canadian Deputy Minister's “absurd and baseless” comments about Home Minister Shah. Addressing members of Parliament, Morrison did not say how Canada came to know about Shah's alleged involvement.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had also alleged

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had said a year ago that Ottawa had credible evidence that Indian government agents were involved in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023. At the same time, calling these allegations absurd, Indian officials have consistently denied that Canada has provided any evidence. (input language)
