There is important news for the travelers thinking of going on Haj from India. The government has given information in the Parliament as to how many people will be able to perform Haj pilgrimage this year. Saudi Arabia has earmarked a Haj quota of 1,75,025 Indian pilgrims for 2025, which has been distributed among the Haj Committee of India and Haj Group Organizers (HGOs), the government said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju gave this information to the Upper House in a written reply to a question. He said that the quota for the year 2025 has been distributed between Haj Committee of India and HGOs in the ratio of 70:30. He said that for Haj 2025, the quota of Haj pilgrims allotted to HGOs is 30 per cent (52,507) of India's total of 1,75,025. He said that the terms and conditions relating to Haj quota allocation and Haj group organizers are governed by the bilateral agreement signed between India and Saudi Arabia, which takes into account various ground realities.
The journey lasts for 40 days
Haj pilgrimage lasts for 40 days. During this, the first 10 days have to be spent in Madina city and after this many traditions are followed on different days. After spending time in Medina, Hajj pilgrims visit several mountainous areas. Throw pebbles at the devil's wall. Animal sacrifice is also done on Eid-ul-Azha. The Kaaba present in the city of Mecca has the greatest importance in the Hajj pilgrimage. Hajj pilgrims circle the Kaaba seven times in an anti-clockwise direction, a process called Tawaf. There is a black stone in the Kaaba, which is kissed.
Quota of passengers is fixed for every country
Saudi Arabia's rule is that one person for every 1000 population from Muslim countries can perform Hajj. However, every country tries to send as many people as possible for Hajj, hence the discussion on increasing the Hajj quota continues. India had signed an agreement with the government of Saudi Arabia regarding Haj quota in Jeddah. (with language inputs)
