New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, while referring to the country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, made a statement which may sting the opposition. Shah said that efforts were made to erase and minimize the great contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to the country and he was deprived of the Bharat Ratna for a long time. While flagging off the 'Run for Unity' race before Patel's birth anniversary, the BJP leader said that it was possible only because of the foresight and wisdom of the country's first Home Minister that more than 550 princely states merged into the Union of India and the country became independent. 'Run for Unity is being organized on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras'
Shah said, 'PM Modi has pledged before all the countrymen to make a fully developed India by 2047.' He said that 'Run for Unity' is usually organized on Patel's birth anniversary i.e. October 31, but this year it was organized two days earlier as it was Diwali. Shah said, 'Today we are organizing the race on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras.' Let us tell you that Modi government has been celebrating 31st October every year as 'National Unity Day' since 2014. Sardar Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat.
