There is a place named Carter Road in Bandra, a famous suburb of western Mumbai. This place is today known for the bungalows of film stars. On this road, there is a house once known as 'Bhoot Bungalow', which created Bollywood's first superstar. The name of this superstar is Rajesh Khanna and if he were alive today, he would have celebrated his 82nd birthday. For Rajesh Khanna, who said goodbye to the world on July 18, 2012, this bungalow was no less than a lottery ticket. It was just a coincidence that this bungalow was once named 'Dimple'. But this was when Rajesh Khanna and Dimple did not even know each other. Later this bungalow was named Aarshiwad and Dimple Kapadia became its owner. Rajesh Khanna's life has been a rollercoaster ride and he has reached a level of fame that no one had ever dreamed of. Today we will tell you the story of the house which became famous by the name of 'Bhoot Bungalow' which made Rajesh Khanna a superstar and itself became an address in the whole of Mumbai.
Bought a fortune from someone and became a superstar
Bandra Bandstand is that area of Mumbai where thousands of people are seen strolling every day to get a glimpse of their favorite film stars. Rajesh Khanna used to have a bungalow here whose name was Aarshiwad. But the story of this bungalow becoming a blessing is also quite interesting. Before Rajesh Khanna, this bungalow was in the name of Bollywood star actor Rajendra Kumar. Rajendra Kumar did films like 'Mother India' in 1957 and 'Dhool Ka Phool' in 1959 and earned a lot of fame. At this time Rajendra Kumar lived on rent at a place named Santa Cruz. But after his career started, he was planning to shift to a better place. Meanwhile, a broker showed him a bungalow on Carter Road. This bungalow was filled with cool sea breeze. Rajendra Kumar liked this bungalow and bought it for Rs 65 thousand. Then this bungalow was also known as Bhoot Bungalow. But Rajendra Kumar named this bungalow 'Dimple' after his daughter. As soon as he bought this bungalow, Rajendra Kumar's luck changed and he became a star overnight. When Rajendra Kumar reached the peak of fame, he bought another house and shifted there.
Rajesh Khanna's journey started from here
The year 1960 was coming to an end and a hero named Rajesh Khanna was beginning to dominate Hindi cinema. Rajesh Khanna's success knocked in 1969 and shook the film world. Rajesh Khanna, who gave 15 consecutive superhit films, bought this bungalow in 1969 for Rs 3 lakh. After purchasing this bungalow, Rajesh Khanna named it 'Aarshiwad'. It was only after purchasing this bungalow that Rajesh Khanna became the first superstar of Bollywood and Ashirwad himself became a known address in entire Mumbai. Even in the letters coming to Arshivaad, only Rajesh Khanna, Arshivaad, Mumbai address was written. This bungalow proved to be very lucky for Rajesh Khanna and it was here that he married Dimple Kapadia. Rajesh Khanna died in 2012 and in 2014 this bungalow was bought by a businessman for Rs 90 crore. Rajesh Khanna wanted to convert this house into a museum.
