Rabindranath Tagore was greatly impressed by his dance skills and then called for dance in several events and he was awarded the title of 'Nritya Emperor' to Sitara Devi. When she turned 12, she started dancing in films. She performed in Usha Haran, released in 1940, Roti in 1938, Nagina in 1951. At the same time, in Mother India, who came in 1957, she fascinated everyone by dancing Holi in a male disguise, but after that she stopped dancing.

She was married first when Sitara Devi was 8 years old, but she broke the marriage to focus on dance education. Then he married Nazir Ahmed, 16 years older than him. They changed their religion for this marriage, both were partners in Hind Pictures Studio. Then there was a rift in both and Star Devi came close to Asif, the nephew of her husband Nazir Ahmed. Leaving her husband in 1944, Sitara Devi married K Asif. But, then Asif got married to Sitara Devi's friend and then got a third marriage to Dilip Kumar's sister.

Marriage to Pratap Barot

After separating from Asif, Sitara Devi married Gujarati businessman Pratap Barot. Both also had a son, but this marriage also could not last long. Both of them also named Ranjit, both of them. Ranjit Barot is a well-known musician. He has also been an Associate of AR Rahman. Sitara Devi was awarded the Padma Shri Award and Sangeet Natak Academy Award for contribution to dance and art. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, but rejected the award, saying that he had demanded Bharat Ratna for himself.
