Very few people know that before entering the film industry, the life of Shabana Azmi, who debuted with 'Ankur' in 1974, was also full of struggle. There was a time when she used to sell coffee at a petrol pump, but something else was written in her destiny.

Sold coffee before becoming an actor

From selling coffee to becoming a National Award winner, Shabana Azmi has come a long way. Shabana Azmi, born in Hyderabad, is the daughter of famous poet Kaifi Azmi and veteran actress Shaukat Azmi. He completed his schooling from Queen Mary's School, Mumbai and did Psychology from St. Xavier's College. He later took admission in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, to teach acting. Shabana Azmi's mother Shaukat died in 2019. Shabana's mother had revealed in her autobiography 'Caf and I: A Memoir' that despite being from a rich family, her daughter used to sell coffee at the petrol pump to earn Rs 30. She wanted to help her family financially during her college days.

When Shabana Azmi tried to commit suicide

Shabana Azmi had tried to commit suicide twice in her childhood. Her mother Shaukat had also revealed about this incident in her autobiography that Shabana Azmi once drank copper sulphate in the school lab. At that time she was saved by her friend. The actress had taken such a drastic step because she felt that her mother loved her younger brother more, so in anger she tried to commit suicide. For the second time, Shabana even tried to commit suicide by coming in front of a train after being scolded by her mother. However, by the grace of God he was saved by the school watchman.
