Malayalam author and screenwriter MT Vasudevan Nair passes away at the age of 91. MT Vasudevan Nair, the king of emotional songs in Malayalam, died in Kozhikode on Wednesday. The author was hospitalized for the last eleven days. He suffered a heart attack and was immediately taken to the hospital. The late writer breathed his last on Wednesday while on ventilator support. His works like 'Naluket', 'Randamoozham', 'Varanasi' and 'Spirit of Darkness' earned him an important place in the literary world.
Kerala government announced mourning
The Kerala government has declared official mourning on December 26 and 27 on the death of Malayalam writer MT Vasudevan Nair. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed to postpone all government programs including the cabinet meeting to be held on December 26 as a mark of respect. MT Vasudevan Nair also contributed to Malayalam cinema. He wrote scripts for many popular films including 'Nirmalyam', 'Perunthachan', 'Randamoozham' and 'Amritham Gamaya'. MT was born in Cuddalore near Palakkad
MT Vasudevan Nair was born in July 1933 in Cuddalore, near Palakkad. He received his schooling from Malamalaka LP School and Kumaranallur High School and then obtained a BSc degree in Chemistry from Victoria College. After graduation he became a teacher, but his literary journey began when his stories started getting published in Jayakaralam magazine. During this time, his first story collection 'Bloody Sands' was also published.
