Famous tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain died on Monday morning in San Francisco, USA. The 73-year-old tabla player living in America was admitted to the hospital due to heart related problem. Zakir was hospitalized for about 2 weeks, but his condition worsened on Sunday, after which he was kept in the ICU. The news of Zakir Hussain's demise has shocked the entire country. Bollywood stars have also expressed grief over the demise of the famous tabla player. From Amitabh Bachchan to Kareena Kapoor, many B-town stars mourned Zakir's demise and paid tribute.

These celebs paid tribute

Amitabh Bachchan shared a post on Zakir Hussain. Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a photo of Zakir Hussain on Instagram, in which he is seen with Kareena's father and veteran actor Randhir Kapoor. While sharing the photo, he wrote- 'Always a master'. Malaika Arora also shared a picture of the tabla player and wrote – 'Rest in peace legend.'

Akshay Kumar-Anupam Kher also paid tribute

Paying tribute to Zakir Hussain, Akshay Kumar wrote – 'Very sad to know about the tragic demise of Ustad Zakir Hussain Saab. He was truly a treasure to the musical heritage of our country. Om Shanti.' Anupam Kher wrote- 'Who knows how long the heart is going to remain sad! Who knows how long the voice is going to remain silent!! Goodbye my friend. You are gone from this world! Will remain in memories for centuries! You too… your talent too… and your childlike smile that touches the depths of the heart!!' Ranveer Singh, Sonali Bendre, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and other stars have also paid tribute to the late tabla player.

Zakir Hussain was awarded Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

Zakir Hussain is a famous tabla player who was born on March 9, 1951 in Bombay (now Mumbai). His father Ustad Allah Rakha Khan was a famous tabla player of his time. He learned the art of playing tabla from his father. Ustad Zakir Hussain started playing tabla in concerts at the age of seven. He did his graduation from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Zakir completed his doctoral degree in music from the University of Washington. He collaborated with drummer Mickey Hart in 1991 for Planet Drum, which won a Grammy Award.

Also contributed to the soundtrack of films

In later years, Hussain contributed to the soundtracks of many films. Zakir Hussain was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991. He was also part of the team that composed the music for the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He is also the first Indian musician to be invited to the White House by former US President Barack Obama in 2016 to participate in the All-Star Global Concert. Zakir Hussain was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002 and Padma Vibhushan in 2023 by the Government of India.
