Ministry of Labor and Employment has directed the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to jointly run a campaign with employers and activate the Universal Account Number (UAN) of employees. In the first phase, employers will have to complete the process of UAN activation through Aadhaar-based OTP for all their employees joining in the current financial year by November 30, 2024, the ministry said in a release on November 21, 2024. It will start with the recently joined employees. After this he will have to complete the process for all the employees working with him. In such a situation, will it be necessary to activate UN after every job change? Let us know the answer.
No need to activate UAN after changing job
According to EPFO's social media post A member cannot have more than one UAN. There is no need to generate a new UAN in any case of unemployment or change in employment.” In case of two allotted UANs, the employee must continue all previous services linked to the previous UAN through the Member One EPF Account facility on the EPFO portal. Should be transferred to UAN i.e. there is no need to activate UAN after changing job.
What is UAN?
UAN (Universal Account Number) is a unique 12 digit number which is allotted to a member. This is a permanent number and remains valid throughout the lifetime of the member. It does not change with change of employment. UAN number helps in automatic transfer of UAN funds and PF withdrawal.
