Vedanta Aluminum Public sector gas company GAIL (India) Ltd. Has entered into an agreement with. This agreement is for the supply of natural gas to the company's smelter unit located at Jharsuguda in Odisha. The country's leading aluminum producing company GAIL (India) Ltd. GAIL Gas Limited's subsidiary company. Has signed gas sale agreement with. Vedanta Aluminum said in a statement on Wednesday that this transition to natural gas is likely to be operational by the end of next year. This is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 47,292 tonnes annually.
Target of zero carbon emissions by 2050
According to the statement, Vedanta is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 by implementing a dual strategy. This dual strategy involves increasing the use of renewable energy and creating a 'carbon sink' through afforestation efforts. Non-Executive Director of Vedanta and Hindustan Zinc Ltd. Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar said, “GAIL Gas Ltd. “Our partnership with is a testament to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and adopting clean energy solutions.”
7.5 kilometer long pipeline will be installed
GAIL Gas Limited will install a 7.5 km long pipeline to supply approximately 32,000 standard cubic meters of natural gas per day. Its contract period will be five years when the pipeline is commissioned. Vedanta Aluminum produced 23.7 lakh tonnes of aluminum in the financial year 2023-24.
