digital arrestThis word is a topic of much discussion among the people at present. This is a method of cyber fraud. In this, fraudsters call you posing as police or government officials and then take you hostage on video and empty your account. In this, first of all people receive a call or email. The person calling or emailing calls himself a police or government department official. He says investigation is going on against you, you connect with us through video call. Then he says on the video that you have been arrested. The fraudster in the video may also be in uniform. He threatens the victim for several hours. Gradually he asks you for bank, UPI, OTP etc. and grabs all your savings. This all happens online. Cyber Security Expert and Advocate Priya Sankhla While talking to India TV, he has given some tips to avoid digital arrest. Let us know.
- Any government official who is related to legal or administration does not make calls or video calls on WhatsApp under any circumstances.
- Before taking legal action against any person, the police officer sends him a notice, which is sent by post only. Will not be sent over email or WhatsApp.
- There is no provision for digital arrest in the law. Real arrest occurs when a crime is committed.
- Court proceedings these days take place online, but only the advocate has access to those court proceedings. The court directly does not, under any circumstances, involve any person in the proceedings taking place online without an advocate.
- Any person should share his life limitedly on social media.
- If someone on the call gives you legal threats or tells you some information which is related to you and makes it legally wrong or explains the provision of arrest, then disconnect the call. If possible, file a complaint against that number in the nearest police station or cyber crime.
- As far as possible, do not pick up video calls from unknown numbers.
- Custom Duty Officer, Income Tax Officer and Food Inspector do not make video calls to any businessman or any person online on Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram even for any kind of survey or investigation. It is against government rules for an officer to take information from any person through video call or calling. No action is completed digitally.
