Tata Group's airlines company Air India said on Monday that it has placed an order to buy 100 more new Airbus aircraft. These aircraft include 10 wide-body A350 and 90 narrow-body A320 family aircraft. According to PTI news, these 100 new aircraft are in addition to the order of 470 aircraft given to Airbus and Boeing last year. Air India also announced that it has signed an agreement with Airbus for component and maintenance support of its A350 fleet.
Total number of aircraft increased to 350
According to the news, with this new order from the airlines, the total number of aircraft given to Airbus has increased from 250 to 350. The order for 250 aircraft in 2023 includes 40 A350 and 210 A320 family aircraft. Let us tell you, Air India had announced in February 2023 that it will order 470 aircraft with 370 additional options. This was confirmed in June 2023, to include 40 Airbus A350, 20 Boeing 787 and 10 Boeing 777-9 wide-body aircraft, as well as 210 Airbus A320/321neo and 190 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft.
A350 order also reshuffled
However, in December last year, the airline revised the order with 140 neo aircraft and 70 A320neo against the earlier order of 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo aircraft. It also reshuffled its A350 order with 20 A350-900 and 20 A350-1000 due in February 2023, compared to an order of six A350-900 and 34 A350-1000. Air India has also placed orders with Boeing for 220 wide-body and narrow-body aircraft in 2023, of which 185 aircraft are yet to be delivered.
Restored confidence in Airbus
Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, said, “Having personally witnessed the tremendous growth of the Indian aviation sector in recent months, I am delighted that Air India has reposed its confidence in Airbus with this additional order for our A320 family and A350 aircraft. Has been established again. Through this partnership, we are committed to supporting the success of Air India's Vihaan AI transformation plan under Tata's vision and leadership.
