After Jio and Airtel, Vodafone Idea's 5G service is also going to start soon. All three telecom companies participated in the 5G spectrum auction held in 2022. Jio and Airtel have so far extended 5G service to almost all the districts of the country. Vodafone-Idea has been trialling its 5G service for the last two years. However, the company is now preparing to launch 5G service. The Chief Technology Officer of the company has given a big hint regarding the launch of 5G service.
According to the report of ET Telecom, Vodafone-Idea's 5G service may be launched in March next year. The company is going to launch 5G service in 17 priority telecom circles of the country including Delhi and Mumbai. Apart from this, the company has set a target of providing 4G coverage to 90 percent of the country's population by June next year. The company's Chief Technology Officer Jagbir Singh has said that we are behind in launching 5G service, but will start 5G service first in Delhi and Mumbai. After this, 5G will be launched in main cities and metros of 17 telecom circles.
This caused delay
Even after the launch of 5G service two years ago, Vodafone-Idea has not started its 5G service. The main reason for this has been the company's debt of thousands of crores. However, Vodafone-Idea has now received equity funding of Rs 24,000 crore, due to which the company is busy upgrading its network so that there is no loss of users. Along with launching its 5G service, the company is also trying to improve 4G coverage. The company has 5G spectrum bands of 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2300MHz and 2500MHz.
Vi's Chief Technical Officer said that Vi has 55,000 sites with 900MHz spectrum band. At the same time, 1 lakh sites of other spectrum bands are present. Out of the total 1,50,000 sites, work has been completed on 50,000 sites. At the same time, work on the remaining 1 lakh sites will also be completed in the next 9 months. The company is focusing mainly on the 900MHz spectrum band to provide better coverage to the users.
