Elon Musk's company Starlink recently tested direct-to-sale technology. Through this technology, users can access calling and internet data from their phones even without mobile network. Elon Musk's company Starlink is going to launch its satellite internet service in India soon. It is believed that Starling can have a big impact on the market of telecom companies Airtel and Jio in India. However, this recent report by research firm JM Financial can provide big relief to telecom operators.

Relief to telecom companies

The report said the quality of direct-to-sale technology is “inferior” to traditional wireless connectivity. Because of this it will not harm Indian telecom companies. Jio and Airtel have 70 to 80 percent market share in India. Not only this, to deliver Elon Musk's satellite-based direct-to-link service to the users, it will also have to partner with telecom companies so that the SIM card can be verified.

Direct-to-Sale Technology

Elon Musk's satellite-based direct-to-sale technology has been tested in collaboration with American telecom operator T-Mobile. Direct-to-cell technology is a mobile service operated via satellite, in which the network signal is beamed from the satellite directly to the mobile phone. Through this technology, mobile service can be accessed even at those locations where the signal of terrestrial mobile towers does not reach. Especially at the time of natural disaster or emergency, help can be taken through mobile.

However, Elon Musk's company Starlink has satellites in space that can directly beam signals to mobile phones. Many other satellite companies like Starlink are also currently testing direct-to-sale technology. The Apple iPhone 14 series, launched in 2022, was launched with satellite connectivity. Apple also has this technology which provides connectivity to the user through satellite in times of emergency. For this, Apple has partnered with American company Globuster Mobile Satellite Service Network.

Indian public telecom operator BSNL also showcased direct-to-device satellite connectivity technology at the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2024) held last year. Even in future, satellite broadband service will not become a challenge to the existing broadband service because satellite based broadband service will cost 7 to 18 times more than fiber broadband.
