Sangli: A case of gas leakage has come to light in a chemical company in Sangli district of Maharashtra. It is being told that this was a fertilizer plant, after the explosion in the reactor of which gas started leaking. By the time anyone could understand anything, many people had fallen prey to it. Three people, including two women, have died due to gas leakage, while the condition of nine people is said to be critical. The police team is investigating the incident. Apart from this, other serious people have been admitted to the hospital, who are being treated.
The accident happened at 6 pm on Thursday
Giving information about the case, an official said that this accident happened at around 6.30 pm on Thursday evening at Myanmar Chemical Company located in Shalgaon MIDC of Kadegaon tehsil of Sangli. Police said that there was an explosion in a reactor of the fertilizer plant, due to which chemical smoke started coming out. Senior Inspector Sangram Shewale of Kadegaon police station said, “Due to gas leakage in the plant, about 12 people were affected and were admitted to the hospital. Of these, two female employees and a security guard died while nine people are undergoing treatment.
Gas leak occurred after the explosion
Regarding the incident, Sangli Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghuge said that it is suspected that ammonia gas leaked after the explosion in the reactor. Another official said that seven injured have been admitted to Sahyadri Hospital in Karad. Five of these are admitted in ICU. The deceased women have been identified as Suchita Uthalle (50) of Yetgaon in Sangli district and Neelam Rethrekar (26) of Masur in Satara district, the official said. (with agency inputs)
