Imphal: There has been news of attack and looting at the house of an MLA of Janata Dal United i.e. JDU. JDU MLA in Manipur K. Joykishan Singh's mother has filed a complaint that the mob that vandalized the MLA's residence on November 16 looted Rs 18 lakh in cash and jewelery worth Rs 1.5 crore. A senior police officer said several items kept for internally displaced people were also destroyed at the MLA's residence in Thangmeiband area of ​​Imphal West during the attack.

'The MLA's house was vandalized for about 2 hours'

A police officer said, 'Thangmeiband constituency MLA K. Joykishan Singh's mother has lodged a complaint with the Imphal police station that Rs 18 lakh in cash and several valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore were looted or destroyed in the mob attack. FIR has been registered in this regard. He told that on the evening of 16 November, the mob vandalized the MLA's house for about 2 hours. When the mob attacked the JDU MLA's house, he was not at home but was in Delhi for the treatment of one of his relatives.

'The mob looted even potatoes and onions'

A displaced person living in the relief camp set up at Tombisana Higher Secondary School, just a few meters away from Joykishan's house, said, 'Potatoes, onions and winter clothes etc. were kept there for people like us, all these were looted. Went.' Volunteer Sanayai, who is managing the relief camp under the supervision of Joykishan, said, 'We requested the mob not to vandalize the MLA's residence, because goods to be distributed to the displaced people were kept there.' He claimed that lockers, electronics items and furniture were vandalized.

'The mob also beat up the volunteer'

Sanayai claimed that the mob tried to take away 3 ACs but failed, but managed to take away 7 gas cylinders. He said that during the attack, documents of the displaced people were also destroyed and a volunteer present there was also beaten up. After violence increased in Manipur last week, angry people vandalized the houses of many MLAs. The violence had erupted after three women and three children from the Meitei community went missing from a relief camp in Jiribam district. On 11 November, six people were missing after 10 militants were killed in a gunfight between security forces and suspected Kuki-Jo militants, and their bodies were later found. (Language)
